cgm and oh god i was so very stupid

Until about a year and a bit ago I had never had long hair so I never really learned properly how to take care of it and make it look nice. This lead to a lot of frustration, especially because my hair is *extremely* thick and prone to getting super frizzy. It sounds stupid but this really did embarrass me and lead to a whole lot of feeling like shit about myself. I would constantly be messing with my hair all day, making it even worse because it just never looked right. When it eventually got long enough to wear up I was relieved, but I never stopped looking for an answer. The one thing I did know is that I wanted to make this work because I know it will feel good if it does. I did a lot of "research" but nothing I was doing seemed to actually help. When I started I was shampooing and conditioning *every single day* before friction drying it and then blow drying and attacking with a brush. This was very, very stupid and quite literally *all wrong* but again: I did not know what I was doing at all. Over time I learned about how I shouldn't be doing these things if I don't want want my hair to feel like straw. I was shampooing much less, using more conditioner, air drying and not brushing but it still looked messy and bad.

I kept coming across Reddit comments about the "Curly Girl Method" but kind of just ignored it because honestly it sounds like bullshit. When you hear something with the name "X Method" with people making all kinds of wild claims and having books written about it sounds like one of those fad diets designed to sell you expensive shit but honestly it is the only thing that has actually worked for me. It's really just a change in routine with a really bad corpo sounding name. Again, my hair is extremely thick, naturally curly (2b), and low porosity making it a bitch to actually control. If you have a similar hair type and have been having issues I'd give it a shot. You don't really need to buy any expensive products, just change your routine and avoid certain things. Probably the best resource for this is the Ultimate CG Guide [1]. In particular I would recommend squishing a LOT conditioner into your hair (squish to condish) and using lots of gel when your hair is wet.

I know this one is a bit silly but it used to be something that really did murder my self-image and was a major source of dysphoria for me. I'm happy I have one less thing to feel anxious about, that is always nice :-)
